Weekend Project

The Mr. and I finally had a weekend at home We decided to build a fire pit for our back yard. I was a little nervous building it but I’m glad we decided to build it-it looks fab! Here are some before and after photos. T

he before pictures are from the summer we bought the house. It looks a little rough around the edges! We put on the deck, added the retaining wall and patio, and the fence last year. The firepit was our only addition this year (thank god!).

We had already bought the insert for the firepit a couple of years ago for around $50. Wait for those end of summer clearance sales people! We measured across the metal pit for how wide we needed the exterior brick circle to be. After you have that information, the rest is a cake walk. You simply type in your specifications at the Menards kiosk. You can do everything right there-from picking out your brick to how high you want the pit. We printed out our mock up, bought our bricks and we were headed home.
We leveled out the area we were putting the bricks with a shovel. Then we just laid them in a circular pattern and continued until we were out of bricks. We opted not to cement them together (in case we ever needed to move the pit). We also added finishing bricks. They’re the top bricks that are smaller and give the project a finished look. This project took us about 3 hours-start to finish.
