The One When I Made Paste for Dinner

I am usually a fantastic homemade chicken noodle soup maker.  Just ask my Mom.  Well, she’ll tell you I’m great at everything but back to the subject at hand.  The weather had just decided to take a nose dive from Fall to Winter.  The Chi-weenies were shaking in their sweaters.

Homemade chicken noodle soup sounded like the perfect solution.  I already had leftover chicken and I always have the other ingredients on hand.  At lunch I decided to dump it all into the crock pot on warm so I wouldn’t have to make it on the stove after work and working out-it would just be ready to go.

Fast forward to 6:45 pm.  We’re both ravenous and I start ladling out the soup and it is not looking good.  The egg noodles (the frozen kind) didn’t hold up too well in the crock pot.  The entire crock pot looked like chicken paste.  Matt dutifully choked it down.  I had 2 biscuits and beer for dinner.

And now the worst part (oh yes, it gets worse).  I needed to get the soup out of the crock pot and we don’t have a garbage disposal (santa?  are you listening?) so I was just scraping all of the paste soup into a lined grocery sack so I could take it out the outside trash.  Well, I’m holding the crock pot up and then the bag starts sliding down the counter towards the floor.  I couldn’t react fast enough, the bag fell to the floor, soup everywhere!!  It was awful, it looked like vomit (sorry for the TMI).  So I had to clean that up too.  Sick.  you’re lucky that I didn’t take a picture.

Lesson learned.  There are no shortcuts to homemade chicken noodle soup.
