The Man Cave

In honor of the Super Bowl this week I thought I would indulge you with a post about my dream man-cave. We have some friends with great man-caves.  You can see our friends, Mel and Addison, blog about their man-cave repairs after being hit by a drunk driver.  Incidentally, that is where we watched the Super Bowl.

Our own house unfortunately is not man-cave friendly.  The basement is divided by some thick load bearing walls, and half of the basement consists of a garage.  So my man cave will remain in my head, and on this blog, for the foreseeable future.

The idea of the man cave taps into man’s inner connection with man’s best friend – the dog.  As a pack leader, and alpha wolf so to speak, I take my cues from the animal kingdom and seek to get my R&R wolf-style in my own den.

But today’s modern man needs more than a stone cave and some straw.  If I’m dreaming about the ultimate Man Cave, my thoughts drift towards the man-fanciest bar in Des Moines.  The bar at 801 Steak & Chop.

Full of deep rich mahogany and a wall of liquor that requires a ladder, 801 Steak & Chop is one classy place.  But, for a man-cave it could feel a little uptight.

I would also want to bring in elements of the one of the sweetest man-caves to grace the big-screen.  In the movie, I Love You Man, the character Sydney Fife, has a sweet garage-style man-cave.  (see it here)

No matter what the style, my dream man-cave requires three basic things:

1) A big screen TV

2) A bar

3) A killer leather chair like this one
