FLUGTAG!

That’s Fly Day to all you non-German speaking folks. Matt heard of the event and like any proud German, was set on seeing these flying machines hit the water in person. We met up with our friends and headed over to this crazy event. There were so many people there! The grand tally said over 105,000 spectators.
Before the main event we were able to tour the “hangar.” All of the teams had their machines lined up and were dressed in complementing costumes.
We saw cavemen…
piñatas…
AND even the president and his secret service!
The launch site was right on the harbor. We luckily had some new friends who staked out a perfect spot to see all of the launching.
I had my doubts on how fun this was going to be. I definitely underestimated watching people free fall into the water! It was actually great! All of the teams do a little skit or dance routine on the deck and then they push their flying machine out into the water. The video is a little blurry but here’s a peek at the action.
Verdict: Flugtag rules. If you have a chance to see this event in person, do it!

Ummm i think i saw this on TV. But hilarious commentary during the fall. Plus your day at the winery, and sailing looked fun. Maybe next year Lulu and Lilly can “fly” with proper floatation devices they should be fine and you know it would fly pretty far.

How fun! Would love to see this in person. I’m pretty sure they brought it to San Diego a couple of years ago
