Flower Power

We managed to cross another item off of our Sand Bucket List this year. 2013-already so productive! We had a chance to see the Tournament of Roses Parade live. If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram a few of these may be old news but hang in there, lots of new obnoxious pictures to come!

I’ve grown up watching the parade on TV and both of my parents and my grandparents have raved about seeing it in person. So when Matt was offered free grandstand seating, we couldn’t say no. Of course we would have loved if Iowa could have pulled their shizzo together and actually been in the Rose Bowl but alas it wasn’t to be {next year!}. We dutifully cheered for our Big 10 compadres, the Wisconsin Badgers when their float cruised by.

We were also fully prepared for this to turn into a disaster as we were also toting a 20 pound, 7 month old baby along. BTW- Ergo carrier for life!

Turns out, homie loved the parade, especially the marching bands. We were seated in the grandstand on East Colorado and had third row seats! Unfortunately we were just outside of the camera shots so we weren’t able to wave to our families but it was such a fun experience!

Awards I’d give to floats if I were in charge of that type of thing:

- Most Fun: The Disney Float, it was a Cars Land theme and it was just as Disney-fied as you would imagine. Fun music, dancers and a Tow-mater truck.

- Most Starstruck: HGTV, I was practically screaming at Matt to get a picture of that one. I mean REAL penguins and a dog on board? Loved it.

- Most Patriotic: War Veteran Dogs: SO awesome! People were cheering, there were real war veteran dogs walking along side.

- Most Awkward: The Farmers Insurance float, a couple got married on it. Which isn’t horrible but the bride was tied onto the float {I can only assume for safety reasons} in the most unflattering of ways.

Really, all of the floats were beautifully done. I would love to go see them up close at the staging area one year. We had such a ball and everything went shockingly smooth. We had a reserved parking space, delicious breakfast waiting and a small walk to our seats. I couldn’t have planned it better.

I am so impressed it went smoothly! I’ve never braved the parade myself…

I am so jealous! I’ve always wanted to see the Rose Parade in person. And even more jealous of seeing the Farmers Insurance float. Do you have any pics?
