Hello!

We are Matt and Brittney Ahrens and this is our blog. Welcome! We bought our little home in 2006 and have been working on it ever since. It’s been a bumpy but exciting road discovering our home improvement talents. We have absolutely no training in remodel or construction work and will enlist any and all of our family members or friends into manual labor.  We love seeing a good “before and after” and have repainted our guest bedroom an embarrassing number of times.  Welcome to our circus.

The Baby Dogs

Our 2 loveable pups, Lulu and Lily.  They are half Chihuahua and half Dachshund.  We have no idea why Lily is mammoth in comparison to Lulu.  We love them both and appreciate them putting up with the constant sound of hammers and furniture re-arrangement. They star in a ridiculous amount of photos and videos. Oh, and we dress them up, prepare yourself.

So what’s Poverty with a View mean?

What is the essence of “Our Poverty with a View”?  It’s putting in new wood floors and getting a leak in the roof.  It’s painting the spare room a grayish-tan, and then a grayish-green, and then a tannish-gray.  In short, it’s us living our life, and doing our best to carve our little house into a home.  It might not always work out – sometimes it will even suck, but we always have a goal and we’ll get there someday.  We might not have everything we want right now, but when we take a step back and look around we like what we see.  We hope you do too.
