Our readers are a savvy bunch so I’m sure you all are on Pinterest and loving it as much as I do. If not, get your booty over there and get pinning. Pinterest is essentially a virtual pinboard. Instead of keeping all of you recipes, gift ideas, DIY projects as bookmarks on your computer (or [...]

Ceiling Saga
Posted by Brittney | Filed under Before & After
Our little abode had its first brush with catastrophe. Our upstairs neighbor was happily loading and running his leaky dishwasher unaware our ceiling was slowly filling with his dirty dishwasher. It all came crashing in last weekend. Literally.
Moldy insulation, drywall and gallons of NASTY water all over the kitchen!
Our contractors, and I use that [...]

Organization Blitz
Posted by Brittney | Filed under Before & After
Since Spring has sprung in Santa Monica already (please don’t hate me Iowa people) I’ve had the itch to declutter and organize our place. Since our space is small it’s been even more important to keep the clutter to a minimum. I’m usually pretty tidy and I’m a tosser. Matt is definitely a saver. But [...]

Ooh, Shiny!

Excuse me while I jump on the Mercury Glass bandwagon. I just love the look of it. So pretty and weathered.
I didn’t really feel like shelling out any moolah for this look so like any good blogger, I headed deep into the interwebs for a DIY tutorial. I found tons. Here, here, and here. [...]

Here’s an ugly truth. Matt and I have been sleeping on his dingy old mattress left over from college. Matt’s mattress selling frat brother wheeled and dealed a queen mattress with box spring for about $200 and a case of natty light. Looking back we realized it was a pretty good deal now that we [...]

Lamp Fail
Posted by Brittney | Filed under Before & After
Not all of my projects turn out as spectacular as I plan. I know, shocking. After adding our new lamp shade for our living room lamp I kept thinking that the dark bronze finish didn’t look right.
I decided to take the plunge and spray paint it with Rustoleum’s Metallic Brushed Nickel that had received [...]

Floating Space

In the theme of getting the office put together we tackled another project this week. Installing floating shelves. I’ve had my eye on a pair from IKEA. The $20 Lack Shelves. I must be a trend setter because those babies were sold out everywhere. I even called the warehouse and they tried to ship me [...]

White Out
Posted by Brittney | Filed under Before & After
I finally gave in. The “distressed” look I was going for with our coffee table was not jiving with our white slipcovers and dark wood. It was beginning to look like an eyesore. I should have gone with my gut and painted it white to begin with!
Since I had all of the paint out [...]

Someone’s in the kitchen

Look at this cutie shelf that I picked up at St. Vincent’s Thrift Shop. Which, by the way, was an experience. Ahem.
What?! You don’t like it? What if I told you it was only $10? Matt didn’t love it either but I had plans for it. I needed a place to house all of [...]

Dining Redux: Part II
Posted by Brittney | Filed under Before & After
Now that we’ve finished the painting of the dining room table and chairs we can move on to the fun stuff. Picking out fabric for the cushions. I found a great little local fabric store here, Fabric Planet, that definitely lived up to their name. I found the perfect fabric for our chairs. Light grey [...]
