Here are some pictures of our home from the very beginning. Enjoy as we reminisce the back-breaking work!
This colorful “before” is our guest room. It featured purple walls and yellow trim.
It took a couple of tries to get this one perfect. I originally painted it a olive green in flat paint. It wasn’t perfect so I moved on to a really “bright and fresh” green. I didn’t even take a picture or put the furniture back in the room because I knew it wasn’t right. I think we’ve finally found the right shade. We then replaced the outdated carpet with hardwood floors, refinished my iron bed and added new window treatments
Kitchen
Our kitchen was really the worst of the house. It sported original cabinets that had been painted a lovely shade of navy blue. The counter tops were a mint green laminate and the window treatments were metal blinds. ![]()
We did a lot of work in here with very little budget. A coat of paint on everything, new floors, a new pantry and appliances and she looks really nice now!
We love our appliances! We saved our pennies and didn’t replace them right away, which was tough. Once they were in it made an immediate difference in the kitchen. The $40 countertop is probably our best purchase in the kitchen. It made the biggest difference with this smallest dent in our budget.
Living Room/Dining Area
Our living room and dining area. I loved this part of the house. I thought it needed the least work. Was I in for a surprise or what!
We painted the whole room, scraped the popcorn ceilings and replaced the fireplace tile and painted the fireplace cover. We recently painted the front door and patched the ceiling one final time!
Master Bedroom
The upstairs of our 1 1/2 story is what sold us on the house. It was a little retreat from the rest of the house. The bedroom was huge, and the bathtub was even bigger! We ripped all of the carpet out, painted, add shelving and furniture.

Master Bathroom
Our Master Bathroom featured blue stick on tile, white backsplash and a horrid vanity (I wish I had a picture!).
We added bead board, new ceramic floor tiles, a new vanity, mirror and fixtures. It’s perfect for us now!
The Front Yard
Our little house the first spring we owned it. Looking back now it does look a little worse for the wear.
We’ve done a lot outside-new trim paint, new roof and gutters. Let’s not forget the fence and the walkway. We’ve also added Lilac bushes and a new light fixture.
Backyard
Whew wee! The backyard was a wreck! We had chain link fence, a rickety old deck, a slab for a patio and a serious drainage problem on the side of the house.
We tackled it a little a time. The trim was the first to be updated, then we took on the drainage issue. We added terraces and a tile to help keep the landslide at bay. We then went to work on the patio and deck. We originally only were going to replace the deck. Well, that idea morphed into a total backyard redo. We replaced the deck, added a paver patio (the hardest part of the whole project!), a new retaining wall, and a privacy fence for the 2 pups. We love the end result! Stop by for a bonfire in the summer.
We hope you like what you see! We’re still working on projects around the house and would love to see any of your DIY home renovations!
