Our humble abode was built in 1938; it shares the same birth year as Brittney’s Grandma Liz.  We wound up with this diamond in the rough a mere 48 hours after we toured it.

A little back story: We were living with 4 of Matt’s fraternity brothers in an apartment about 40 minutes from our jobs in Des Moines (Let’s just say it was a transitional period). Matt found the house online, it was really rough around the edges but we were desperate for our own space and the house definitely fit our budget (which was next to nil as recent college graduates).

We both saw great potential.  It was a 2 story, brick home with lots of charm and lots of outdated finishes.  We were naively confident in our home improvement skills and we went for it.  In March of 2006 we were proud first time home owners.

Ever since, we have been painting, sanding and spackling this house into a home.
